I’m super excited to talk about a new skincare line that I fell in love with! Well, technically it’s not new but, it was new to me. I learned about The Ordinary skincare line on beauty blogs and social media. If you do a quick Google search, you will easily see reviews from Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and Cosmo. Needless to say there was a buzz surrounding the products! Even celebs like Kim Kardashian professed their love for the brand. I was intrigued also by the sleek black and white packaging as I am a sucker for brand esthetics. I thought to myself for sure this would be another pricey skincare line. I was wrong! The price point is amazing and affordable enough to experiment with various types of serums, creams, and moisturizers. Also, The Ordinary sticks to providing high quality products that are free of parabens and sulphates, and the majority of the items are vegan.
Since I was in the market to add a few serums to my routine, I decided to give them a shot. After receiving my package in the mail, I used the products consistently for at least a month, and couldn’t wait to do a review!
Products Purchased + Review:
Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%– A #holygrail item! This product combines Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin to combat uneven skin tone, reduce dark spots, and brighten the skin. The directions state that you can use in the AM and PM, but I typically use at night after cleansing/toning. While applying, I experienced a warming sensation. After I applied a few I massage about 20% into the skin, then let 80% soak in on it’s own. It’s not too oily and gives a nice glow. I’ve noticed my dark spots fading and overall skin tone appears brighter and even.
Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%– I accidentally stumbled upon this product, but am so glad I did! YouTube guru Wayne Goss raved about it and the reviews were consistently good. This acid is supposed to renew the skin’s appearance, improve the texture, and tone. You are only supposed to use at night, 2-3 times per week. No lie-the first time I used this, I woke up the next morning with skin that was visibly clearer and brighter. I don’t know how to describe it other than there was so much clarity, smoothness, and firmness in my skin tone. Every time I use this, my skin just glows and looks amazing.
Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG– I struggle with under eye puffiness, so I am that girl who will try almost any eye product. This solution is supposed to reduce puffiness, dark circles and fine lines. I don’t find it to be the most moisturizing, and am on the fence as to whether it helps with dark circles. I apply this with another moisturizing eye cream and gently pat in the solution using my ring finger. I will continue to use and see if I notice anymore difference.
AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution– 10 minute Exfoliation Facial-This product is used to exfoliate the skin for a brighter and more even skin tone. This solution is quite strong, so you only want to use at night at a maximum of two times per week. I don’t want to over exfoliate, so I only use this once every two weeks. I applied the solution with my fingertips and left on no more than 10 minutes. Yes, it does sting a little! After using this product I felt my skin’s texture improve. I also wore a lot of sunscreen the next day and limited sun exposure because the skin is highly sensitive to sunlight after using this product. It’s a thumbs up for me!
I try so many different brands and products that sometimes it’s hard to determine which items I truly need. Especially with a line like The Ordinary, where there are so many options and affordable prices. So when I learned that you can contact them directly for a detailed regimen and product suggestions, I was super surprised. You can use their online contact form to ask for recommendations specific to your skin type! Or you can check out their Regimen Guide for easy, go-to products suggestions for acne, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, etc.
