Hiiii!!! Welcome back to the blog! For the past few weeks, I’ve been so focused on self care, mental health, and getting a few personal goals in order. One thing I realized is how much I’ve been neglecting certain things, i.e. my natural hair! Let me give you a little bit of background on my hair and my journey.
My Hair Journey
As a child, I had long, thick hair. My mom faithfully took me to the hair salon because she refused to do my hair herself. She said it was too much work! I started off natural and got my hair pressed often. Eventually, I started getting relaxers and constantly experimented with my hair on my own. Between heat damage, cutting my hair, color, and carelessness, my long, thick hair became thin and unhealthy. I started to wear wigs and protective styles a lot. Then, one day during undergrad, I decided to go natural. I didn’t do the big chop and never experimented with my natural texture and styles. Throughout college and adulthood, I wore sew-ins with occasional blow outs or wore my natural hair in buns.
My Hair Today
So to this day, I still mostly wear weave because it’s easier and I never have the patience for my natural hair! Although my real hair is back to long and semi-healthy, I tend to forget about taking care of it while wearing weaves. That’s a huge problem! My goal is to have moisturized, healthy hair, especially my leave out and edges. This year I’ve been on a mission to take care of my real hair just as much as my extensions. That’s why I was excited when Aloe + Coal by T. Spruill® reached out about reviewing their hair care line.
First Impressions
My first time using the products, I was unsure about what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the rich, creamy texture of both the shampoo and conditioner. A little truly goes a long way. I cleansed my hair twice while in the shower. The directions say to let the shampoo sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. After rinsing, I noticed my real hair and extensions were free from product build-up. I followed up with the conditioner and let this sit for a few minutes after I showered. I made sure to rinse all the conditioner out so that my hair would not be weighted down. After using both products, I have not noticed any dandruff build-up and my scalp feels less itchy and dry. I will definitely continue using these products, specifically on my natural hair more so than my extensions. There are so many benefits from using this brand, that I would recommend it to anyone with various hair textures.
